I wandered across the BBC’s newest production of Tess of the d’Urbervilles on Masterpiece Theatre last night. The story didn’t move very fast, and I almost flipped channels, but I’m so glad I stuck it out. BBC is always stellar at costume dramas, and this one is absolutely spectacular. I especially liked how simple everything was, from the dresses to the landscapes and even the hairstyles, but exuded a quite elegant. Shots were uncluttered and showed off the landscape where it was filmed. Seeing green grass and sky made almost jealous, actually, because we currently have three feet of snow on the ground. This shot in particular makes me want to take the first flight out of here, buy a white dress, find a field of flowers and dance until I collapse.
Even the backstage shots are stunning.
